I get the feeling Ruger has the stuff but doesn't want to let anyone know they have it. They sent him a brand new in the box folder. Wow, I'm actually gonna say I don't totally agree with you Tony! That's a first! There is a guy on my website (that recently sent in a factory folder (ac556K) in and they told him it was not serviceable. I really love my FNC but think it would be crazy to have it as my "only" machinegun that saw thousands of rounds a year of use. I am not an AR180 guru as I don't own one, but beleive that the majority of the parts can be aquired without too much difficultly from either Pete Flies or Armalite. Unfortunately, from a dollar perspective you might as well just buy an M16. With today's climate anybody considering buying an FNC as their only machinegun should really think about picking up a spare semi for parts. It took me two years and cost me $850 for a complete FNC bolt/carrier/recoil assembely. If you need an FNC bolt, carrier or barrel they are only available from cannabalizing a $3500 host semi in 99.9% of the time, especially if need need it in any reasonable timeframe.Įven if you can find an FNC carrier or bolt it will take some time and money. That would get you a spare of every single part in the gun. It would probably take you maybe half a day to find a deal on Sturm if you put an add of WTB "AC556 parts kit - $750" and maybe a couple days max with a $500 pricetag. Any of the factory long barrel or mini-14 barrels could be quickly cut down by a competent smith if needed. they can replace small parts, but otherwise, today an AC556 is subject to the same dearth of replacement parts as an FNC or AR180.īut thoes specific parts (sans receiver) are not any parts that are required to make the gun continue to run. Ruger has run out of replacement receivers, folding stocks and most barrel configs. That's no longer as great as it once was. If you plan to shoot a lot, go for the Ruger as factory service is still available. The factory folding stock can fetch around 400-500 online, more than most mini-14's are worth. I wish Ruger still made them, they are among the best folders out there, but the pistol grip could be improved. There are no parts available for them except the AC556 can take some Mini14 parts. The folder has been working perfect for over 25 years, it's all American Steel.
